Those who are of a higher status in the society often have access to better health care, mostly through insurance that they are subscribed to by their respective employers. There is however another group of people that is not as lucky. These are people who are not employed, have low income jobs, or because of certain disabilities, they are not able to proper care for themselves and thus need to be put on the program. Currently, all states in the country take part in Medicaid, although they are not required to do so.The government has been instrumental in making sure that all people in the country have access to Medicaid, particularly those that may not have gotten it otherwise. In order to further balance the access to these services, each of the states has put in place certain criteria that hav e to be met by applicants before they are considered for Medicaid. Poverty alone may sometimes fail to serve as enough qualification.The result of the involvement of the government is that there has been a great decrease in the number of deaths that occur as a result of people being unable to access proper health care. The government involvement has also made sure that hospitals that were seen to be of a lower status are now offering better services (Florez 55).
