Introduction:
Throughout the history of English Language Teaching, phonemics has had different procedures in the English classroom. In the beginning with the Grammar interlingual rendition method Phonology was totally absent but therefore it forced its existence in the Audio-lingual method through with(predicate) the drilling activities, and continued playing a major role in the Silent Way method (Carey, 2009). Although phonology had its ups and downs in the history of ELT, nowadays, it is considered as a fundamental element in the Communicative approach.
Over the years, there rent been two major approaches towards the counsel phonology has been taught: the rotter-up approach and the top-down approach. The bottom up approach suggests beginning with the individual sounds and works up to stress, rhythm and intonation. Conversely, the top-down approach starts with intonation and stress and deals with the phonemes when obligatory (Maniruzzaman, 2008). Thus, the top-down approach focuses on the suprasegmental features as opposed to the segmental features of phonology. However, because students are different I believe that teachers should shew to find the appropriate method in order to helper students overcome their pronunciation problems.




Teaching consideration:
The chosen context is a group of 20 Female Saudi Arabian teenage students aged fourteen to fifteen studying at a public middle school in the cracking city, Riyadh. All the students pretend Arabic as their first speech communication and are learning English as a guerrilla row. They have been studying English for three years and thus, have a lower intermediate level of English. The English language course is an obligatory part of the curriculum in which the students have to pass in order to progress to the next year.
I chose this particular context because of my personal experience as a student in that country. When I first moved from Britain to Saudi, I did not know Arabic, so I communicated with my teachers and classmates through English.
